India AI Impact Summit: Vaishnaw Apologises for Day 1 Chaos
The inaugural day of the India AI Impact Summit became contentious as participants highlighted significant logistical problems. It lead Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to publicly apologize. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge slammed the government. He described the event as “complete chaos and severe mismanagement.”

Minister Offers Apology, Promises Rectification Measures
Speaking at a press conference at Bharat Mandapam, the summit location, Vaishnaw termed the turnout as “remarkable,” with more than 70,000 participants on Day 1.
“This is the largest AI conference globally.” The reaction is exceptional. The energy is tangible. “We apologize for any issues faced by anyone yesterday,” he stated.
The Minister mentioned that a specific “war room” has been established to tackle complaints and operational issues. He promised attendees that coordination had greatly enhanced and that the final days of the summit would proceed without issues.
Kharge Criticizes Government for ‘Worldwide Disgrace’
Previously, Kharge took to the social media platform X to condemn the event’s organization. He asserted that what might have been a worldwide exhibition of India’s digital skills devolved into a disordered experience because of inadequate planning.
He claimed that founders, exhibitors, and visitors experienced distress due to stringent security measures prior to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit. Also, he stated that essential services like food and water were said to be lacking. There were cases of pilfered items and breakdowns in the digital systems.
Moreover, Kharge also recommended that the Centre take cues from occurrences like the Bengaluru Tech Summit. It is recognized for efficiently organizing major tech events.
Participants Report Security and Connectivity Problems
Participants reported lengthy lines, simultaneous security screenings, unclear entry directives, and inconsistent mobile data connectivity. So, a few exhibitor booths were briefly cleared in anticipation of the Prime Minister’s visit, contributing to the disruption.
Dhananjay Yadav, the CEO of NeoSapien, claimed that certain AI wearables belonging to the company were taken after security staff requested exhibitors to leave their booths. He wondered how such events could take place in a high-security area.
In a similar vein, Punit Jain, founder of Reskill, condemned the arrangements, saying that exhibitors and delegates were kept outside without water or clear information on access. Nevertheless, he subsequently admitted that coordination enhanced markedly on the second day.
Also, entrepreneur Priyanshu Ratnakar characterized the experience as “visuals over implementation,” highlighting registration issues and inconsistent connectivity.
Organizers Assure Easier Days to Come
Organizers stated that corrective actions were taken during the day to reduce congestion and enhance coordination. The summit is designed to establish India as a worldwide AI leader and will end on February 20.
