Bengaluru Murder Case: Recently, a 76-year-old former ISRO employee in Bengaluru found himself being accused of murdering his wife in their apartment. This has left local residents shocked. In addition to shocking local residents, the sad news stories regarding this event have come out quickly. Investigators report that the accused is named Nageshwar Rao. He, allegedly, suffocated his wife, Sandhya Shri (63). It was with a bath towel while she was making lunch at about 10:15 am on Wednesday.

It was reported that, after the murder was committed, Rao knocked on the door of one of his neighbours and told them he murdered his wife. At first, the neighbour thought it was a joke. The neighbour then went to see if it was true and, when he confirmed it was true, called the police.

The police arrived shortly after the call from the neighbour and arrested Rao for murdering his wife.

Why Did He Commit The Crime?

Investigators stated that the prime suspect had been suffering from mental health issues that stemmed from the fear of how he would care for his wife once he died.

According to police sources, he had thought of killing himself. But ultimately made the decision that he would not go on living. Had decided, however, to kill his wife since he feared she would be left without any form of protection after he took his own life.

Authorities did confirm Rao had determined to seek some sort of mental health intervention for himself. However; exact details have not been made public.

Reports state that after killing his wife, Rao stayed next to her dead body for nearly 20 minutes before attempting to reach out to a neighbor for assistance.

Background of the couple

The couple is originally from Andhra Pradesh and had been residents of the apartment complex since they purchased it in Bengaluru three years ago. The couple has only one child, their daughter, who lives in the United States.

Residents of the Senior Citizen’s residence expressed their disbelief with the tragedy. They called the couple “quiet” and “allowing themselves to be introverted” during a long-standing period prior to this event. This community has never witnessed something so horrific prior to this tragedy so the residents are especially shaken by the events of February 15.

Investigation is Underway Investigators have started an investigation into a murder. Police will be looking into the suspect’s mental state by reviewing medical records. They are also speaking with his neighbors to find out what his life was like right before the murder in relation to his metal state. Many people in the community have also begun having conversations about the need for additional mental health support for the elderly. For those who live by themselves and do not have any close family members around them.
