The people of Kashmir have been graciously aided by the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in India, following recent events in Iran. This heart-warming act has garnered attention globally. It illustrates the bond that exists between communities.
Funds were raised by a community fundraising project that began shortly after Eid al-Adha. When many younger members of Shia-dominated regions of Kashmir went door to door to gather contributions to assist those affected by what was going on in Iran at that time. Contributed items included cash, gold, as well as kitchen utensils.
Many districts throughout Kashmir had a large turnout for this event, such as Budgam and Baramulla.
In appreciation for the overwhelming support, the Iranian Embassy in India posted a message of gratitude on their social media sites. Acknowledging that the kindness shown by the people of Kashmir “will forever be remembered.” The Iranian government also expressed its gratitude with the words “Thank You, India,” sharing images of donations received by various different segments of the community. It included: kitchen appliances, gold jewellery, money, and piggy banks.
Touched by Acts of Kindness
There were many notable examples of compassion shown during recent events. A Kashmiri woman who donated her husband’s gold token he had given her almost 30 years earlier after his passing. This is making waves on social media and is currently one of the most talked-about recent news updates.
Women were particularly active in this fundraising effort, providing both financial and emotional support, including donated valuable possessions.
Ensuring Safe and Legitimate Donations
As indicated by the Iranian Embassy on March 17, an official bank account has been established to process donations from individuals wishing to contribute to support relief for victims of the Iran earthquake. Also, people who want to provide a viable means for donors to contribute. It was made clear that all donations should take place only through authorized channels. Thereby avoiding any misunderstandings about how donations were made and ensuring they would be appropriately allocated.
Once funds have been collected for distribution, it is expected that the funds collected will be distributed by the authorized aid organisation(s) who have an established relationship with the Iranian Embassy will provide assistance to the victims.
Uniting All Countries in Support of One Another
This humanitarian project has sent a powerful message that empathy and kindness do not have borders or boundaries. Whether they are geographical, religious, or political. The response from residents of Kashmir has provided more than material support. It has also contributed to the strengthening of the emotional ties between India and Iran.
Collectively, this generosity and unity are illustrated by the continued momentum and support for this cause.
