On October 2, 2024, a technical glitch at Bank of America disrupted the services for thousands of customers, primarily in the United States. Over 20,000 users reported problems on Downdetector, such as seeing $0 balances or being unable to complete transfers. Frustrated customers quickly took to social media, sharing their worries about the state of their accounts. One user mentioned, “The app isn’t working, and online banking still shows my balance from yesterday. I’m concerned about my money!” Another added, “Transfers between accounts remain unavailable.”

Swift Action but Lingering Issues

Bank of America acknowledged the issue early and began working on solutions. Although most systems improved by the afternoon, some users still faced problems with transfers and account access. Despite the progress, the bank has not yet explained the root cause of the outage. Consequently, many customers continue to question the security of their funds.

In response to the situation, the bank stated, “We understand that some clients faced difficulties accessing their accounts. We’ve largely resolved the issues and apologize for any inconvenience.”

Even though the bank assures customers that their funds are safe, these recurring problems continue to raise concerns about the reliability of its systems.
