The latest news update reveals that Truecaller has launched its Live Caller ID feature for iPhone users, a functionality previously exclusive to Android. This development follows Apple’s release of the Live Caller ID Lookup framework in iOS 18.2, allowing deeper third-party app integration.
Enhanced Privacy with Homomorphic Encryption
The caller identification process utilizes homomorphic encryption. This method converts information into ciphertext, enabling analysis without decrypting the original data. Apple’s documentation explains that an on-device app authenticates the user device with a temporary ID. The system then runs multiple round protocols with the information server, ensuring the server doesn’t learn about specific tokens or the user’s identity.
User Experience and Visual Indicators
During testing, the Live Caller ID functioned effectively for incoming calls from unknown numbers, provided Truecaller had relevant data. Visual cues on the call screen include a green tick for verified businesses and a red warning icon for numbers reported as spam. Users can report numbers by selecting them within the Truecaller app.
Subscription Details and Availability
Live Caller ID is available to Premium subscribers, priced at ₹99 per month or ₹899 per year. The Family Plan, costing ₹249 per month or ₹1,490 per year, allows sharing with four additional users. Free tier users have access to manual number search and limited caller ID of Verified Businesses.
Apple’s Evolving Approach to Third-Party Integrations
Apple’s introduction of the Live Caller ID Lookup framework in iOS 18.2 reflects a more open stance toward third-party app integrations. This change enables apps like Truecaller to offer enhanced functionalities, bridging the gap between iOS and Android experiences.
