SpaceX Starship explosion
SpaceX has had yet another setback when its most recent Starship test flight ended with failure; yet another explosion for the ambitious space venture. The event took place just minutes after the takeoff and had raised deep concerns about its future.
Starship Launches but Loses Control
The 403-foot Starship rocket took off from Texas on Thursday, aiming at flying over the Indian Ocean for a controlled landing. While the first-stage booster managed to return safely to the launch pad, the upper stage spacecraft suffered from engine failures, causing it to uncontrollably spin. Communication had been lost when the rocket exploded in midair, with debris seen falling over Florida.
What Went Wrong?
SpaceX said that Starship had suffered a “rapidly unscheduled disassembly,” a term the company frequently uses for sizable failures. Engineers suspect that something may be wrong with the fuel system and onboard computer systems which may have contributed to the explosion. The earlier test also ended in a similar fashion due to fuel leaks igniting several fires.
NASA’s plans and future missions
“While there have been some setbacks, NASA has lined Starship up to take several missions to the Moon, and Elon Musk sees it as a ride to Mars,” the craft was carrying four dummy satellites to simulate future missions, but they were never able to launch. What now for SpaceX? SpaceX has promised to up its game and carry out further tests. The FAA finally did approve a Starship launch even after previous failures, so a test provisionally could come up soon.
According to trending news today, SpaceX pushes further into noble space discovery, but many arduous challenges still lie before Starship that will prevent it from achieving its lofty aspirations.
