Significant​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ Acknowledgment in Muscat

Thursday​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ saw Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, receiving the First Class of the Order of Oman from the Sultanate. It is its highest civilian honor. This is a significant milestone in India-Oman relations. With this degree, PM Modi is now one of the very few world leaders to have been honoured in a similar way. Besides him, the list comprises such personalities as Nelson Mandela, Queen Elizabeth II, Emperor Akihito of Japan, Queen Máxima, and King Abdullah of Jordan.

PM Modi’s Expression of Thanks

Upon receiving the award, Prime Minister Modi shared his thoughts on the social media platform X. He called the honour a “symbol of affection and trust between the Indian and Omani people”. He considered the honor as a gift to the people of India. Also, he thanked Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and the entire Omani nation.

“Our ancestors were connected through sea trade for many generations,” PM Modi told the reporter. He stressed that interconnections through the ages have been deep not only between the two but among several countries. Instead of being a barrier, he said, the Arabian Sea has become a bridge linking India and Oman.

The Prime Minister, thus, linking the past with the present, devoted the award to Indian as well as Omani seafarers. They, who, over the history, have been instrumental in the growth of trade and cultural exchanges between Mandvi and Muscat.

Enhancing India–Oman Ties

During the last part of his tour across three countries, PM Modi landed in the Sultanate of Oman on Wednesday. Sultan Haitham bin Tarik received the Indian PM at his Al Baraka Palace in Muscat ahead of their one-on-one talks.

The meeting saw India and Oman signing off the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). A historic free trade pact, which is expected to open new horizons for economic co-operation. Both the leaders welcomed the deal, calling it “a game-changer for the India-Oman strategic partnership”.

CEPA: An Enhancement for Trade and Employment

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the CEPA would be a powerful tool for bilateral trade growth, improved bilateral investments, support for economic diversification, and the creation of new job opportunities in both nations.

“CEPA means more jobs for the people, better market access for companies, smoother supply chains, and overall increased economic opportunities for both sides.” Jaiswal said Pointing out that the agreement would stimulate expansion in the key sectors of the economy.

Wider Collaboration on Worldwide Matters

Besides trading-related issues, PM Modi and Sultan Haitham talked about an extensive array of subjects. It included defence and security, energy, agriculture, technology, culture, and bilateral relations. They also discussed a variety of regional and international issues, which showed the breadth of their interaction.

Earlier​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ today, PM Modi was a keynote speaker at the India – Oman Business Forum. He talked about India’s economic reforms during the last 11 years. The Prime Minister, as per ANI, announced that these changes have made India one of the most attractive markets in the world.
