Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line

The long-awaited Yellow Line of the Namma Metro in Bengaluru opened for passengers on Monday, August 11, 2025. This comes just a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Yellow Line’s operational status, which is a significant milestone for the public transportation network in the city.

The Yellow Line is the first line to directly connect RV Road to Bommasandra (via 16 stations and thousands of daily commuters), and it is creating much buzz as part of today’s trending news because it will help decrease some traffic around the city, which is notoriously bad.

Route, Distance, and Major Stops

Once complete, the Yellow Line will stretch over 19 km from RV Road area in southern Bengaluru to the industrial area of Bommasandra, with 16 stations of which 3 major interchanges:

  • RV Road (Green Line interchange)
  • Jayadeva (future Pink Line interchange)
  • Central Silk Board (future Blue Line interchange)

The route in addition to other distinctive destinations also contains Electronics City, Infosys Foundation, Huskuru Road and Delta Electronics Bommasandra. It is important to note that this route also enhances connectivity to industrial players such as Wipro, Infosys, Biocon and Tech Mahindra.

The Yellow Line route extends the Namma Metro total operating distance to more than 96 km. It is officially the 2nd largest metro system in India, behind Delhi.

Hours and Frequency

Service along the Yellow Line will run all days of the week between the hours of 5:00 am and 11:00 pm. During the opening, there will be three trains operating on the line every 25 minutes; it is expected that service will operate every 10 minutes during peak hours.

This schedule aims to accommodate daytime workers during the busiest times of the day, as well those late-night workers who have trouble getting around or finding a way to get home via public transport.

Fare and Ticketing

The ticket prices for the Yellow Line will be consistent with regular Bengaluru Metro fares.

  • Lowest fare: ₹10
  • Fare ceiling: ₹90

Customers will have easy access to smart cards, QR code tickets, and traditional paper tickets.

Benefits of Connectivity

The new metro line is expected to change the way people commute, especially for those traveling to and from Electronics City and the Bommasandra industrial zones. By providing direct access to employment areas, the Yellow Line will seek to:

  • Reduce traffic congestion on Hosur Road and surrounding areas.
  • Decrease the time for journeys between residential areas and industrial/tech areas.
  • Provide reliable and environmentally friendly transport for many employees and children.

Project Expenditures and Project Progress

The Yellow Line, capital project, from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is a joint undertaking of the Government of India and the Government of Karnataka. The project was completed at an estimated investment of ₹7,160 crore. Significant civil works and supportive station and signaling operations were necessary to complete the Yellow Line.

The Larger Context for Namma Metro

Namma Metro continues to alter the transportation behaviours of Bengaluru with each advancement. The Yellow Line’s opening will be more than just another milestone in infrastructure development, as it will represent a significant new step in sustainable urban mobility, as the Yellow Line’s main interchanges will ultimately provide network efficiency as the Pink and Blue Lines will subsequently operate.

In Conclusion: The Yellow Line is a milestone in the development of public transit in Bengaluru. Its connection of major residential, IT, and industrial areas will provide faster, cleaner, and more efficient transportation. It’s no surprise that it has been one of the hottest trending news today for commuters and urban planners alike.
