Delhi SUV Accident: Teen Driver’s Father Issues Public Apology

A surprising story has attracted significant attention today. The dad of a 17-year-old charged with hitting a biker in Delhi’s Dwarka has openly apologized, referring to the incident as a “serious error”. It conveyed profound embarrassment regarding his son’s behavior.

The deadly incident that took place on February 3 close to Lal Bahadur Shastri College resulted in the death of 23-year-old Sahil Dhaneshra and left one other person hurt.

“Serious Error, Extremely, Extremely Apologetic”: Dad Addresses the Situation

In an interview with Aaj Tak, the father of the teenager expressed that his family is experiencing “intense shock” and profound embarrassment. “It was a serious error, truly, genuinely regretful.” “I feel a great sense of shame”. He stated, mentioning that he was in Gorakhpur for work when the event took place.

He asserted that his son might have taken the car keys in “nadani” (innocence) while he was away. Also, he believes that if he had been in Delhi, the accident could have been avoided. “When I am at home, I usually uphold a disciplined atmosphere,” he expressed.

Accident Information

As per the Delhi Police, the youth was operating a Scorpio SUV registered under his father’s name. He reportedly lacked a valid driving licence. Also, the vehicle allegedly struck a bicycle approaching from the opposite side before colliding with a stationary taxi.

Motorcyclist, Sahil Dhaneshra, was pronounced dead at the location. The taxi driver, Ajit Singh, suffered injuries and was taken to a hospital for care.

The event, recorded on video, has heightened public anger. So, this ignited conversations regarding underage driving and parental accountability.

Allegations of Stunt Driving for Videos

Inna Makan, the victim’s mother, claimed that the teenager was driving dangerously while filming social media videos with his sister. She asserted that the Scorpio was traveling at high speed in the incorrect lane. The defendant even tried a maneuver.

She referred to her son as her only support, as a single mother, and called for decisive measures.

Notably, the brother of the accused teenager allegedly admitted. It was that his sibling was speeding and operating a vehicle without a valid license. He asserted that he did not leave the scene following the accident.

Judicial Actions and Temporary Assistance

The defendant was brought before the Juvenile Justice Board and initially placed in an Observation Home. He was subsequently provided with temporary relief to sit for his Class 10 board exams.

The father also responded to claims concerning several traffic challans issued to the SUV previously. He explained that the vehicle is mainly utilized for business purposes and is typically operated by hired drivers.

A Note to the Family of the Victim

In a heartfelt message, the father reached out to Inna Makan, expressing his empathy for her suffering and stating he will “dedicate his whole life to earning her forgiveness.” Also, he acknowledged that nothing can erase the tragedy.
