Farmers March Towards Parliament: Demands and Traffic Updates
thenewsbuzz December 2, 2024 0Farmers in Uttar Pradesh, led by the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad (BKP), have started their march towards the Parliament complex. This protest highlights their ongoing demands for compensation and benefits related to agricultural laws. Increased security and traffic diversions are affecting the Delhi-NCR region.
Farmers’ Demands: A Closer Look
Farmers are emphasizing several critical points:
- Compensation Hike: They seek a 64.7% increase in compensation under the old acquisition laws and four times the market rate for lands acquired after January 1, 2014.
- Land Allocation: Farmers demand that 20% of the acquired plots be returned to them.
- Employment Support: They want children of landless farmers to receive job opportunities and rehabilitation benefits.
- Resettlement Measures: Farmers stress the importance of properly resettling populated areas.
- Implementation of Orders: They call for immediate government action on prior High-Power Committee recommendations.
Traffic Disruptions Across Key Routes
The march, starting at 12 PM near Mahamaya Flyover, involves tractors and foot convoys. Consequently, traffic patterns in Delhi-NCR have been altered:
- Noida to Delhi: Chilla Border traffic is diverted via Sector 14A flyover. Vehicles at DND Border are rerouted through Filmcity flyover in Sector 18.
- Greater Noida to Delhi: Drivers must take routes through Kalindi Kunj or Sirsa.
- Restricted Goods Vehicles: Entry is limited on Yamuna Expressway and Noida-Greater Noida Expressway routes to Delhi.
Moreover, alternative routes have been introduced for commuters, such as Kalindi Kunj via Hajipur underpass and Sector 51-Sector 60 roads.
Security Measures Tightened
In anticipation of disruptions, authorities have stationed heavy security at Chilla Border, DND Flyover, and Mahamaya Flyover. Police Commissioner Shivhari Meena confirmed additional checkpoints and monitoring to ensure smooth traffic and public safety.
Upcoming Protests: MSP in Focus
The agitation doesn’t end here. From December 6, groups like Kisan Mazdoor Morcha will protest, pushing for a guaranteed Minimum Support Price (MSP). These actions highlight the broader concerns of the farming community.
