Google Chrome Android Update: What’s New in Version 146
Google has introduced an updated version of the Chrome browser for Android devices. It includes a desktop-like bookmark bar feature now available on all tablets and foldable smartphones. As part of Google’s latest release for Android Chrome, users will now see a Bookmark Bar located below the Omnibox (address bar). Similar to how it appears as part of the Google Chrome experience on a desktop computer. It will allow users to quickly access their saved websites.
Users who have organized their saved links into folders will be able to use their Bookmark Bar to quickly find their links without changing screens. In addition to showing the connection between icons and text associated with each saved bookmark which can improve user navigation speed and ease of use. If there are more saved bookmarks than will fit on the user’s screen at one time. An easy-to-identify arrow can provide access to additional bookmarks without changing screens.
This was developed with the larger screens of Android tablets and foldable devices in mind. It is because the larger screens can provide users with larger interfaces. On the smaller mobile devices, it hides the Bookmark Bar by default in order to keep the mobile interface clean and neat.
The introduction of this feature reinforces Google’s commitment to unifying mobile and desktop browsing experiences. Especially since more and more users are utilizing foldable mobile devices.
How to Activate the Bookmark Bar in Chrome for Android
The Bookmark Bar feature is available to all Chrome for Android users in version 146, and users also still have access to the full “All Bookmarks” section for more detailed management of their saved links.
In order to activate this feature:
- Go to Settings in Chrome
- Select “Appearance”
- Select the option to enable the Bookmark Bar.
In addition, when any bookmark is long-pressed, it now shows the full URL of that bookmark, allowing for greater control and clarity over that bookmark.
