Illegal migrants being sent back to India in military aircraft marks the first major manifestation of Trump’s immigration policy. That flight coincides with Trump’s policy-on illegal immigration. Hence it gives every indication of being tougher on border controls.

Details on Deportation Flight

A US military C-17 aircraft got off from a certain location with deportees on board believed to be on their way to India. There wasn’t a word yet on how many would actually be in it. An official from the US confirmed that the flight had taken off, but did not add more detail. The US embassy didn’t want to comment, while stressing that the administration was strictly enforcing immigration laws.

India is the furthest distance away that a US military deportation flight has ever gone. While in the past these flights did similar work for Guatemala, Peru, and Honduras. Similarly by the same means, the Pentagon has deported more than 5000 migrants from the US-Mexico border.

Increasing rate of Deportations of Indian Immigrants

The US deported over 1,100 undocumented migrants from India between October 2023 and September 2024.

On October 22, a charter flight sent back around 100 Indian citizens. Such deportations have reportedly increased over the years, according to authorities in the United States.

There are approximately 18,000 undocumented Indians in the United States today. The Indian government has assured its support to the US for the smooth deportation of illegal Indian immigrants, insisting, however, that citizenship must be firmly established prior to any deportation.

Awareness and Funding Concerns

In this view, military aircraft deportation cost much more. A recent US deportation flight to Guatemala cost at least $4,675 per migrant. Experts have gone on to amplify awareness on the hazardous realities of illegal migration and human smuggling cartels that employ illegal migrants.

Authorities in the US and India committed to conducting awareness campaigns to deter illegal migration trends, as well as to open up the enticing options for safe and documented migration.

Assistant Secretary of US Immigration Policy Royce Bernstein Murray called for joint actions against international smuggling cartels.

Conclusion

It is regarded as one of the biggest-discussed issues in the trending news today-a showcase of Trump’s very hawkish immigration policy side and a hike in the deportation numbers. Expect more news relatively soon on the update of immigration policy between India and US, with the anticipated collaboration against border security and migration legally.
