Iran US Conflict

The Middle East conflict has been greatly altered. It is with President Trump proposing that we take military control over Iran’s key oil assets. As news of this is trending all over the world, many are concerned that the already volatile situation will become more so.

Kharg Island: A Strategic Target

In an interview this week, President Trump stated that the US might think about taking over Kharg Island. This is Iran’s largest oil export hub. It is believed that approximately 90 percent of Iran’s crude oil exports are processed through Kharg Island. Thus a major contributor to Iran’s economy.

With President Trump’s stated desire to take control of Iranian oil assets, he believes that he could put heavy pressure on the opposition government. However, he acknowledges that controlling the area would require a long-term military commitment.

Military Risks Increase

Analysts have expressed great concern regarding how dangerous such an action could be. A land operation targeting Kharg Island will potentially increase threats to US personnel and prolong the war, rather than resolve it.

The Pentagon has reportedly begun to send troops into the region to prepare for possible future engagements. With thousands of Marines and air units moving to the area at this time. It’s likely tensions will continue to increase in the coming weeks as the militarization of the region rises.

Oil Supply to the World Staggered

Attendance to the military conflict has already disrupted energy pipelines. Especially around the Strait of Hormuz which is considered one of the most critical points globally for moving oil. Should there be an increased rupture in tensions around Kharg Island, global crude prices may rise dramatically again.

Some analysts fear that Iran may escalate to attacking shipping lanes using naval mines. This would put global commerce and movement of energy into extreme jeopardy.

Trump Claims Gift From Iran

Recently Donald Trump stated that the Iranian government ” allowed” another two times as many Pakistan-registered tanker ships through the Strait of Hormuz as represented by the U.S. government. He’s expecting to provide the “amount” of total ship amounts after the verification process.

Trump makes a reference to Iranian politician Ali Baghdadi suggesting there has been back-door communication between both parties.

Current Climate and Military Timing

There is still serious potential for more military action to occur in Iran despite the current levels of tension, according to President Donald Trump. There is no doubt that indirect communication is taking place between both countries through intermediaries, but is contingent on coming to an agreement before that occurs or else the U.S. may target more infrastructure within Iran.

According to him, many viable targets still exist; therefore, if no diplomatic solutions arise, military actions may continue indefinitely.

Trump suggested that due to the recent attacks on Iran’s leadership, there could be changes taking place in that nation internally. He also cast doubt on the stability of Mojtaba Khamenei in light of trending news today. However, Iranian government officials deny that there is any evidence of instability within the regime, contending that their leaders are secure.

Amidst current events, Trump’s statements about taking control of Iranian oil resources have resulted in increased anxiety globally as the conflict approaches an important point; therefore, this situation creates a fragile balance between military action and diplomatic efforts and will have significant ramifications for global energy markets and regional stability.
