Tamil actor-director Manoj Bharathiraja, the son of the legendary director Bharathiraja, passed away in Chennai from a heart attack on March 25. He was only 48 years old. The untimely death of Manoj has shocked Tamil cinema as many Tamil cinema celebrities expressed their condolences and sadness.
Bollywood and South Indian Actresses Mourn His Death
Legendary actor Kamal Haasan expressed his sadness by stating, “I have been shocked and heartbroken about Manoj Bharathiraja’s passing.” My condolences to Bharathiraja sir and his family. Actor Chiyaan Vikram shared a heartfelt post: “Today, the world lost a wonderful storyteller.” “You will never be forgotten.” Director Venkat Prabhu wrote, “It’s hard to believe that this heartbreaking news has come true, brother! Left us too soon. My condolences to Bharathiraja sir and family.”Actor and politician Khushbu Sundar expressed her sadness, commenting, “This is an unimaginable loss.” Actors Vijay and Suriya were present at Manoj’s final funeral rites on Wednesday which paid the late actor their last tribute of respects.
Manoj Bharathiraja’s Contributions to Tamil Cinema
In 1999, Manoj began acting in film with ‘Taj Mahal’, a romantic film written and directed by his father, Bharathiraja, with music from A. R. Rahman. Over the years, Manoj acted in multiple Tamil films, including Samuthiram, Alli Arjuna, Kadal Pookal, and Maanaadu.
Manoj began directing by releasing ‘Margazhi Thingal’, featuring his father, as well as new talent. Tamil cinema will always recognize and honor his contributions.
