Scheduled for inauguration in the last week of September 2024, excitement is building among players and coaches alike. Former India captain and current BCCI Apex Council member, Dilip Vengsarkar, expressed his enthusiasm for the academy’s state-of-the-art facilities.
A State-of-the-Art Cricket Academy
Vengsarkar visited the academy last week and was truly impressed by its infrastructure. The academy features three grounds, 45 practice pitches, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool. “The grounds are big, and the wickets are good. It is all state-of-the-art and almost ready,” Vengsarkar stated. Additionally, the facilities include eight indoor nets and a gym that spans 16,000 square feet.
Moreover, the main ground boasts an impressive 85-yard boundary, ensuring it meets international standards. “I am sure all the work will be completed by now,” he added, emphasizing the quality of the cricket academy.
Upcoming Inauguration Ceremony
The inauguration of the new NCA will occur just before the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting. Apex Council members and representatives from BCCI’s state units have received invitations to attend. This event marks a significant milestone in Indian cricket and promises to elevate training standards across the country.
Expansion Plans for Indoor Academies
Furthermore, Vengsarkar provided updates on the progress of indoor cricket academies that are being established in six Northeastern states. These facilities will serve players from Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim. The BCCI laid the foundation stone for these projects in May. “The work there is also picking up pace and progressing as per schedule,” he confirmed.
Renovation of BCCI Headquarters
In addition to the NCA, Vengsarkar discussed the proposed renovation of the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. He noted that the building hasn’t undergone updates in a long time, and the organization aims to modernize its facilities.
The establishment of the new National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru represents a commitment to nurturing cricket talent in India. With facilities that rival the best in the world, the academy will surely become a cornerstone for future cricketing successes.
