RBI New Banknotes: New Currency Notes without Any Change in Design
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has notified the issue of ₹100 and ₹200 banknotes. They will come with the signature of Shri Sanjay Malhotra, the newly elected Governor. These banknotes will be issued in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series. It will have the same design as currently in circulation.
RBI New Banknotes will have No Effect on Older Banknotes
The RBI has announced that all old ₹100 and ₹200 banknotes, issued before this notification, shall remain legal tender. It means that individuals may continue to accept the old notes without worrying. Printing of fresh banknotes bearing the new Governor’s signature is a regular process after a change of Governor.
Routine Currency Updates by RBI
As part of its monetary policy regime, the RBI updates banknotes from time to time with the signature of the current Governor to make the currency system uniform. The design does not change, but the release of these notes is a formal updating of the Indian financial and banking system.
The RBI news updates show that these banknotes will be put into circulation soon without any modification in security features or functionality. The old and new notes are still usable by citizens and business individuals alike.
