A horrible school shooting took place in northeast British Columbia. It has left at least ten people dead. This includes the shooter himself. It has been one of the deadliest mass shootings to happen in Canada recently. These events have left Canadians in shock and have been on the front page of every newspaper. What happened
According to reports from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the shooting occurred at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School on February 10, 2026. As of now, eight people are dead at or around the scene of the shooting, which includes the alleged shooter. The two other victims were found later at a home that is believed to be connected to the shooting adding up to a total of ten deceased.
More than twenty-five people have been reported injured, at least two of whom are in critical condition. Two were flown via air ambulance to hospital. One passed away during an air ambulance transfer for medical treatment.
Police Response and Investigation
RCMP’s Superintendent Ken Floyd stated that officers entered the school as part of the initial response to identify and eliminate the threat. While inside the building, they found victims inside the building.
“A shooter is presumed dead after being identified by the RCMP to have possibly been a victim of suicide,” is the announcement made by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
While the name of the person responsible for committing this act has not yet been shared with the public, they have confirmed the individual’s identity.

“We have yet to fully grasp what has taken place,” said Floyd. As he explained how law enforcement continues seeking out individuals connected to the person.

Tumbler Ridge, a community with approximately 2,400 residents, is located just under 1,000 kilometers north of Vancouver on the border of Alberta. According to the provincial government’s site, Tumbler Ridge Secondary School is a comprehensive secondary school. It has approximately 175 students enrolled in grades seven through twelve.
Brad Newby, spokesperson for the Peace River School District, confirmed that both Tumbler Ridge Secondary School. Tumbler Ridge Elementary School went into ‘lockdown and secure and hold’ mode during this event as a means of protecting students from potential harm.
During the time in question, Larry Neufeld, the member representing the community of Tumbler Ridge in the assembly for the Peace River South riding, commented, “There were too many emergency response personnel. It includes the RCMP and ambulances responding to this situation.” He also stated that he could not provide further operational specifics. It was because of safety concerns and the ongoing investigation.
