The oil prices have soared and there has been a decline in technology stocks, causing pressure on world financial markets amid increasing concerns regarding the artificial intelligence development.

AI Stocks Experience Global Selloff

Nasdaq futures have dropped by 1.5% on the eve of the European session, following warnings made by CEO Anthropic Dario Amodei about the corporate race in developing ever-stronger artificial intelligence models. Other leaders such as the CEO of OpenAI Sam Altman and Elon Musk have joined the calls to avoid hastening.

The companies that manufacture computer chips suffered the most. Intel’s stock fell by 4.9% in premarket trading, whereas Micron and Marvell’s values decreased by 4.4% and 5.5% accordingly. Nadina lost 2.2%.

Asian markets shared the same position. The KOSPI index in South Korea dropped by 3.3%, while the stocks of SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics faced declines more than by 6% and 4%, correspondingly. The Japanese Nikkei index was under pressure due to the loss exceeding ten percent in SoftBank Group shares.

European AI stocks have weakened as well with ASML facing a drop of more than 4%.

Due to Shipping Issues Oil Prices Spike

Increasing tensions between Iran and the Houthis has turned public attention to the Bab al-Mandeb Strait. This is why oil prices climbed noticeably on Tuesday, March 28. The news of the cancellation of the meeting regarding shipping that was held between Iran and some Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations exacerbated the uncertainty.

Brent crude stocks are being traded at a price of nearly $108 as investors are processing the consequences that this incident has on the entire supply of oil to the global market.

Central Banks and Their Decisions are in the Focus of Investors

While new events around oil are taking place, investors are also looking forward to the central banks’ decisions. According to LSEG, investors assume that the probability of the hike of the Federal Reserve funds rate by 25 bps on the upcoming Wednesday is 86.8%.

The expectations for the interest rate increase helped the U.S. dollar appreciate. That is why gold has continued its downward movement being traded at about $4,360 per troy ounce. Bitcoin has climbed by 1.1% and reached the level of $77,630.

The Bank of England and Bank of Japan are scheduled to announce policy decisions later in the week. The BOE is widely expected to hold rates, while the BOJ is expected to raise rates.

What It Means for Global Markets

The latest developments highlight how quickly shifts in AI expectations, energy markets and interest-rate policy can influence global investments. Investors will closely monitor AI spending, oil supply risks and central bank decisions in the days ahead.

For readers following the latest news on business, the market movements underline the growing connection between technology, geopolitics and monetary policy.
