Asian Games 2026: India Misses Shooting Medal
India suffered another setback in shooting at the 2026 Asian Games at Aichi-Nagoya. It finished in fifth place in the women’s 25m pistol team event. This was after an important shot by Rahi Sarnobat was called as a frame hit. The surprising incident led to extensive discussions and news headlines today.
Rahi Sarnobat’s Costly Shot
After the good precision round, India moved to the rapid stage in the medal race. Sarnobat’s attempt was deemed to hit the frame of the scoring area instead of the actual target, resulting in a score of zero.
In spite of the protest by India, the ruling was upheld. In the final, Sarnobat scored 568 points. While the Indian team overall reached 1,727 points and finished in the fifth position. Gold was taken by China with 1,743 points, while South Korea and Chinese Taipei took silver and bronze, correspondingly.
The missed opportunity turned out to be very costly as the Indian squad was very close to getting to the podium.
Manu Bhaker Does Not Qualify
The two-time Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker had a disappointing season as well. She finished in 11th place at the individual qualifier with 579 points, failing to advance to the final round.
Shreyasi Singh narrowly missed winning a medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event earlier in these Asian Games.
Esha Singh also manages to win a silver medal. Today, despite the team being left disappointed, 21-year-old Esha Singh’s qualification for the individual 25m pistol final gave them something to cheer. The shooter had to go through several shoot-offs and finally decided to compete for gold against Xiao, where Esha and her opponent had the same score after standard shooting; both scored 38.
