BJP Surges Ahead Despite Early Setbacks, Congress Remains Optimistic

The Haryana Election Results 2024 reveal a strong contest between the ruling BJP and the Congress. Initially, Congress appeared to make gains. However, as of midday, the BJP surged ahead, leading in 50 constituencies—just above the majority mark of 46 seats needed to form a government. In contrast, Congress currently leads in 34 seats, despite exit polls predicting a majority for them.

Key Issues Influencing Voter Sentiment

Several significant issues shaped this election. Farmers expressed distress over ongoing challenges, and protests erupted against the Agniveer military recruitment scheme. Additionally, allegations of sexual harassment against former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh stirred public sentiment. Consequently, the contest has largely remained bipolar between the BJP and Congress. Meanwhile, smaller parties, such as AAP and the INLD-BSP alliance, have played lesser roles.

Vote counting began after the postal ballots were processed. Authorities closely monitor this process at 93 counting centers across Haryana’s 22 districts. They have deployed 30 CAPF companies and over 12,000 police personnel to ensure security.
