Apple WWDC 2025: What to Expect This Year

Apple WWDC 2025

Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is one of the most anticipated events in the tech calendar and WWDC 2025 may not be any different. However, this year, Apple fans and tech enthusiasts may need to temper their expectations—especially when it also comes to Apple’s efforts with artificial intelligence (AI).

According to multiple sources, Apple is simply not in a position to announce any significant announcements about generative artificial intelligence—amidst rapidly evolving competition from the likes of Google and OpenAI.

AI Takes A Back Seat This Year

As the world watches to see how Apple will respond to the generative AI explosion from Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT, it appears that Apple is taking a less aggressive approach. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple plans to roll out minor AI updates at WWDC 2025 but nothing that would shake the industry or meaningfully change the competitive landscape for AI.

This could be a shrewd decision, and while Apple will not be likely competing for the attention of the market with performance-based presentations, it is expected that Apple will take a strategic and conservative approach to produce “AI” features that emphasize privacy and collaboration with external applications regarding privacy. These new features could likely introduce enhancements, but they likely won’t change how Apple users interact with AI—at least yet!

Siri AI Changes Delayed to 2026

A big disappointment for the Apple faithful is the delay in evolving Siri. Last year we saw impressive demos of an improved, AI-driven Siri, so it seemed that major overhaul to the assistant was under way. Now it appears that we won’t see those many improvements until 2026.

This setback may relate to Apple’s internal struggles to enhance AI throughout its ecosystem while maintaining its strict privacy and security standards in relation to users’ data. Apple’s focus on AI has more commonalities with the hardware-based developers than with the competition, emphasizing performing AI tasks on the device, or using secure cloud-based servers, to maintain user control and security.

iOS 26 and Software Development Might Be in the Spotlight

Even if AI isn’t the emphasis at WWDC 2025, Apple will likely share any important changes, or just plainly provide information, about its software. A noteworthy change may be to introduce iOS 26 to mark apparent change in naming structure. Following the precedent of macOS 26, Apple may bring all its platforms—iPadOS and watchOS in common use—and align them under a versioning strategy.

This change may represent a further attempt to streamline its branding in a unified ecosystem across all devices.

If the official launch of the original iOS in 2007 along with the first iPhone means this possible name change represents a new era for the Apple OS—marked by a technology designed around experience and consistency that enhances the adoption of services.

Apple’s Stance Towards AI: Slow and Steady?

To many, Apple’s ability to promote AI may seem weak given the excitement around the latest technologies in India and elsewhere that fully embrace AI, but perhaps Apple is taking a longer view here, where they build on existing technology for the future. Instead of rolling out features that are still unfinished. Apple appears to be committed to bettering the models; protecting privacy; providing developers with good tools, and then bringing AI into the scope of the user experience.

This means allowing third-party apps to connect more seamlessly with Apple’s AI features—while still exposing new apps under a controlled and trusted Apple environment.

Summary

WWDC 2025 may not be the giant AI showcase that some may have hoped for—but nevertheless, it is significant for developers and users who believe in Apple’s future. With a focus on privacy-based features, better resources for developers, and the introduction of a new name for its software, Apple is moving cautiously in an AI world.

While recent technology in India and elsewhere accelerate AI implementation, Apple’s deliberate, methodical approach reveals its long-term commitment to quality, integration and user trust. Apple may not have made a major breakthrough in AI just yet—but when it does, it will be exciting to look forward to.
