Adobe’s annual creative conference, Adobe MAX 2024, showcased groundbreaking advancements in content creation powered by AI technology across its software platforms. These updates streamline workflows, save time, and expand creative possibilities for users in photography, video editing, and graphic design. A standout feature is the enhanced capabilities of Firefly models, Adobe’s generative AI, now seamlessly integrated into Lightroom, Premiere Pro, and Photoshop.
Adobe Adaptive Profile: Tailored Photo Adjustments
Adobe introduced the Adaptive Profile feature in Lightroom, which utilizes AI for custom photo edits tailored to the unique characteristics of each image. Unlike standard profiles like “Adobe Color” or “Adobe Landscape,” the Adaptive Profile evaluates individual images to adjust elements such as exposure, contrast, and color tones. This feature is particularly beneficial for RAW files, saving time while ensuring precision.
Currently limited to RAW files, Adobe plans to expand support to non-RAW formats like JPEG and TIFF, benefiting both professional photographers and hobbyists. The feature operates within Adobe Camera Raw, supporting various devices, including the latest Google Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Premiere Pro’s Generative Extend: AI Filling the Gaps
In a significant leap for video editors, Adobe’s Generative Extend arrives in Premiere Pro. Built on Firefly’s generative video model, this tool allows users to extend both video and audio clips, smoothing transitions and filling gaps in footage with just a click and drag. Although still in beta testing, Generative Extend currently supports 1920×1080 or 1280×720 resolution, with frame rates between 12 and 30fps.
While Generative Extend effectively manages many transitions, it does not yet support dialogue extension, limiting audio extensions to sound effects and music. Nonetheless, this tool has the potential to save hours of manual editing, enhancing both efficiency and creativity.
Future Innovations: Non-RAW Support and Content Transparency
Beyond these flagship updates, Adobe is committed to ensuring content authenticity through its Content Credentials feature. This technology attaches metadata to AI-generated content, detailing when, how, and by whom the content was created. This initiative promotes transparency and trust in AI-generated media as the creative industry adapts to AI’s growing influence.
What’s Next for Adobe AI?
Adobe continues to lead in AI innovation within creative tools, promising future updates to expand format support and introduce features like JPEG HDR export. As Adobe refines Firefly and other AI-driven models, content creators can look forward to even more powerful tools to enhance their workflows.
