Bihar CM Oath Ceremony: Today, Bihar will witness historic political event, as JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar will be sworn in as Chief Minister for the remarkable 10th time. The ceremony will be held at Gandhi Maidan, Patna, and will include the presence of various notable national figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, making it an event of utmost importance in the state’s political arena. Nitish Kumar Commences Historic 10th Term

Nitish Kumar will start a historic 10th term, following the NDA’s resounding victory in the 2025 Bihar assembly elections, which helps him continue his almost 20-year long tenure as Bihar’s Chief Minister. Furthermore, on Wednesday, Nitish Kumar resigned as Chief Minister and immediately announced his plan to form a new government. Thereafter, he was appointed leader of the NDA legislative party, thus repaying him as the Chief Minister of Bihar.

Oath Taking Ceremony Venue and Timing

The grand oath-taking ceremony will be held at iconic Gandhi Maidan at 11:30 AM. Also, this occasion will mark the 4th time Nitish Kumar gets sworn in at such significant site since 2005. Full arrangements have been made to arrange the attendance of larger than expected crowds.

Firm Security Arrangements in Patna

Security arrangements have been tightened within Gandhi Maidan and around the surrounding areas. The Special Protection Group (SPG) is in charge of providing high-level security for the event. Drones will be used by the Patna Police to monitor the location of the event. Also, there are 128 cameras set up to keep an eye on the event.

The event will also have over 2,500 security personnel, 250 police officers, and more than 250 judges on duty.
Therefore, marksmen have been stationed on the roof of high-rise buildings.

Barriers and scanners have been established at entrances to offload security and screen belongings.
Traffic has been restricted along all major link roads.

Officials expect to see a turnout of more than three lakh people making this one of the largest swearing-in ceremonies in Bihar.

High profile leaders scheduled to attend

  • Several key national leaders, chief ministers of NDA states, and their staff are expected to attend, including:
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi
  • Home Minister Amit Shah
  • BJP President JP Nadda
  • Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Chief and important NDA ally Chandrababu Naidu
  • Andhra Pradesh’s IT Minister and Naidu’s son, Nara Lokesh
  • Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi

Their participation underscores the political climate of the newly formed government in Bihar.

Excitement Surrounding the Positions of Deputy Chief Ministers

With Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha holding down the leadership role and the Deputy Leader role for the BJP Legislature Party, they are more than likely to be Deputy Chief Ministers. BJP member Mangal Pandey is being mentioned in association with a crucial role in the new cabinet.

Who will be the Next Speaker?

It is still uncertain who the Speaker of the Bihar Assembly will be. The main contenders are:

  • Prem Kumar of BJP
  • Vijay Chowdhary of JD(U)
  • Narendra Narayan Yadav of JD(U), who is a former Deputy Speaker.
  • There are indications that both JD(U) and BJP would like to obtain this influential position.

Negotiation of Ministry Portfolios

Both coalition partners—BJP and JD(U)—are prepared to take Home and Education departments, which remain unresolved issues. Talks continued until late Wednesday night to resolve how to distribute important ministries.

Possible Future Bihar Cabinet Configuration

As per initial reports:

  • 16 ministers belonging to BJP
  • 14 ministers belonging to JD(U)
  • 5-6 new individuals to be invited.

Allied parties such as RLM, HAM(S) and LJP(RV) would be expected to be invited if they have the MLA count.

The full list would be presented to governor Arif Mohammed Khan today.

NDA’s Decisive Victory in Bihar Elections

The NDA, on the back of BJP and JD(U) leadership, swept the 2025 Assembly elections by winning 202 of 243 seats.

The Mahagathbandhan ended with a meager tally of just 36 seats, equating to a major loss. The BJP emerged as the largest party with a count of 89 seats while AIMIM received five. At the same time, the Jan Suraaj Party which is led by Prashant Kishor did not manage to register any votes.
