
A severe earthquake jolted Delhi-NCR early in the morning, causing panic among the populace. The area trembled at 5:36 a.m., with a quake of 4.0 magnitude on the Richter scale.
Epicenter Information on the Earthquake
As per the National Centre for Seismology, the earthquake was felt 5 km deep from New Delhi. It recorded its coordinates at 28.59 degrees North and 77.16 degrees East. The tremors lasted several seconds and were strong enough to wake people in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad.
Public Response and Crisis Management
People came rushing out of their homes in panic as soon as the tremors hit. Many shared videos online showing how the earthquake took its toll on buildings and outside activity. Delhi Police came in fast to calm the people, instructing them to remain calm and call, emergency helpline ‘112’, for help.
PM Modi’s Guidance on Safety
PM Modi assured that the officials on the ground were duly monitoring the situation and in his address urged citizens to remain on alert and follow safety measures in case of aftershocks.
Despite the strength of the quake, however, there are presently no indications that it has left serious damage or injuries. Nevertheless, officials were still assessing possible damages and advised people to remain cautious.
