Exam Reforms India: Nilekani to Lead New Task Force
The Indian examination system is all set to undergo essential reforms following the announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is regarding the establishment of a high-level committee headed by Nandan Nilekani. This is for recommending changes to be made for better efficiency and transparency of the examination system. The need for taking this step arises in view of the public concern regarding the recent paper leak scandals. It have caused a big news in the education sector.
Nandan Nilekani to Lead the Committee
As stated by Prime Minister Modi on Sunday, India requires a foolproof exam system for students. The committee formed will specifically focus on mitigating the chances of exam paper leaks. This is by ensuring safety of the entire examination system through the use of appropriate technology and changes in the system.
Having contributed to the creation of the Aadhaar system as well as the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Nilekani has ample experience in executing huge digital infrastructure projects.
Committee to Enhance Exam Security
As per sources in the government, the committee will help improve the National Testing Agency. Particularly with regards to technology. The committee consists of many other experts like, Ex-ISRO Chief S. Somnath, Ex-Ex-Intelligence Bureau Chief Tapan Deka, Director V. Kamakoti of IIT Madras, Ex-Education Secretary c, Logistics expert Amrit Lal Meena.
It is expected that the committee will recommend measures to fortify examination safeguards, prevent question paper leaks and ensure transparency in national entrance tests.
Government Promises Stringent Action
Prime Minister Modi has assured that the administration is committed to securing the future of students. This is following the complaints about exam-related scandals.
He announced that the matter of exam frauds will be dealt with in fast-track courts and that a stringent act against exam corruption will be held in Parliament. Pralhad Joshi Holds Charge as Education Minister
On the same day, Pralhad Joshi formally took charge as the Union Minister of Education at Kartavya Bhavan. He held a review meeting with the Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary. This was to assess the implementation of programs like Samagra Shiksha, PM-SHRI Schools, and PM POSHAN.
Also, Senior officials of the Department of School Education and the Department of Higher Education held discussions regarding educational facilities and existing educational programs. Once he took charge, Joshi said that he has been analyzing the work being done in the ministry and will make the important decisions once he has familiarized himself with it.

The creation of the taskforce with Nilekani at the helm means that the government is keen on reestablishing trust in the Indian examination system by means of technological advancement and implementation of the necessary reforms.
