India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup: India was able to defeat Pakistan in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup game, and excitement developed in the crowd and throughout the streets leading out of the stadium. Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan was in the news today after posting a video of himself dancing to an iconic Bollywood song “Afghan Jalebi” which many fans now believe is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the long-standing rivalry between the two countries.

Pathan quickly went viral for sharing his dance on social media, making it one of the most talked-about moments from sports news yesterday.

Pathan received a ton of love from Indian Cricket fans in the comments for both the team’s performance and his demonstration of his exciting dance moves. The former cricketer has used this same song on previous occasions to celebrate India’s success.

Afghan Jalebi was played twice as his favourite celebration song; once after India won the Asia Cup against Pakistan, and once after Afghanistan’s historic win against England in the Champions Trophy.

India Win Against Pakistan in Colombo

The match was played out in exciting fashion under the lights at the famous R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo where India produced an excellent all-round performance.

Batting first, India achieved a respectable total of 175 runs and lost just 7 wickets on a pitch that was bowling-friendly with good assistance also from the boundaries, aided by Ishan Kishan’s well-rounded innings of 77 runs off 40 balls. Ishan combined aggression with intelligence in his selection of shots against Pakistan’s spin bowlers with confidence.

Ishan reached his half-century in a mere 27 balls and added valuable runs by forming an important second-wicket partnership of 87 runs with Tilak Varma.

Pakistan attempted to increase the pressure during the middle overs, but significant contributions from Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh allowed India to finish with a total greater than 170 runs, making their score ample on such a challenging pitch.

Bumrah Leads the Bowling Attack

As they went into the match with a target to defend of 175 runs, the Indian bowlers wasted no time in disposing of the Pakistani batting line-up, with paceman Jasprit Bumrah leading the charge, finishing with figures of 2 wickets for 17 runs from 4 overs and consistently applying pressure on the batsmen. Hardik Pandya was also instrumental in breaking up any potential partnerships and held the batters to minimal runs as well.

Ultimately, India’s bowlers made it difficult for Pakistan to recover from the early blows, eventually bowing out for a total of 114 runs.

India’s Greatness Continues

With this victory, India boasts a dominant 8-to-1 head-to-head record against Pakistan in T20 World Cups. The dominant victory further secured India’s place in the Super 8 of this tournament, thus reaffirming India’s place of supremacy amongst the elite teams in world cricket.

Irfan Pathan’s celebratory dance was the only notable part of the sports news headlines today, as he put on a great show for fans of Indian cricket, during what was one of the most memorable days imaginable.
