Parliament Budget Session 2025: Opposition Demands Discussion on Maha Kumbh Stampede, Chaos in Lok Sabha 

The Parliament Budget Session 2025 started with drama as opposition parties created a scene in the Lok Sabha. It called for an urgent discussion concerning the Maha Kumbh stampede. Tension built on the floor as the Congress, TMC, DMK, Sena (UBT), and AIMIM loudly protested. 

In the Joint Parliamentary Committee, during the presentation, the report on Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 was released. However the opposition to the bill was sharp from certain quarters. Since the matter had divided political opinions, it was presumed to spark heated discussions. Jagdambika Pal, the chairperson of JPC, released the report alongside committee member Sanjay Jaiswal. 

Discussion Regarding Dissent Notes 

Strong opposition within the report was waved from some political parties, like the Congress, TMC, DMK, Sena (UBT), and AIMIM. The opposition members said that by doing this the committee wanted to undermine constitutional rights, especially those of the Muslim community. 

Furthermore, Congress MP Syed Naseer Hussain and AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi asserted that parts of their dissent notes were edited without their approval. Hussain condemned the act as an effort to silence the pressured voice of the opposition. It has been claimed to contain moves directed against counter opinions. 

Waqf Bill 2024 Major Changes 

PC titled with 25 amendments, that of resistance from the opposition was approved with respect to Waqf Bill. Major measures included the lack of actually extending the benefit of Waqf properties to underprivileged women and orphans. 

Also, The final report was delivered to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on January 30, with the presentation planned for February 3. Robust discussions are expected to be held amid a fierce fight between the government and opposition parties.
