The ongoing conflict in the Middle East, now stretching into its sixth day. It has raised fears that this will ultimately lead to a much larger regional war. Recent news updates over the past 72 hours have shown increased missile exchanges, airstrikes, and military movements throughout the region. This have created extreme instability and could negatively impact international oil reserves and the overall security of the world.

Iran Launched Missiles against Israel

Iran has launched missiles at the State of Israel early Thursday morning. It represents a clear escalation in hostilities. This was in response to reports indicating that a US submarine sank an Iranian naval vessel earlier in the week. This has further increased tensions between Iran and Israel.

As the world continues to grow increasingly anxious regarding the potential for the conflict in the Middle East to grow beyond its current geographic borders. Additional regional and global players will be involved.

Israeli Forces Conduct Airstrikes in Tehran

Has confirmed extensive airstrikes conducted by the Israeli military throughout Tehran in the last several hours. The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) announced that it had begun conducting strikes aimed at what it referred to as the ‘infrastructure of the Iranian terror regime’

Israeli Attack on Beirut Continues; Troops from Israel are Moving Closer

Israel has increased its military actions against Hezbollah once again. They have been attacking locations in the capital of Lebanon, Beirut, and the surrounding areas close to the Israeli border. Lebanon now is becoming more involved in this conflict due to the Hezbollah attack on Israel. Early this week after Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed, and after the US/Israeli airstrikes.

Lebanon’s national news agency (NNA) has stated that Israel has made multiple strikes throughout the city. It included south Beirut, where Hezbollah’s primary base is located. There are burning buildings in multiple areas as the Israeli forces move closer to the border. To date, 2 people have died from the most recent bombardments.

Iran Denied Allegations of Launching Missiles to Turkey

With the increase in tensions between Turkey and Iran, Turkey’s defence ministry has stated that on Wednesday morning. A ballistic missile from Iran was intercepted by NATO missiles and air defence systems while headed toward Turkish airspace in the eastern Mediterranean.

Iran’s armed forces have denied any allegations that they launched missiles at Turkey. They have stated that they respect Turkey’s sovereignty. The conflicting statements from each nation only add to the unpredictability of a very uncertain situation.

Australia’s Military Response to the Crises in Europe

Likewise, in response to the ongoing deterioration of the global security environment, the Australian government has announced its own plans to deploy additional military resources to the Middle East. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that Australian “military resources” were being deployed to the Middle East as a precautionary measure.

Although details are not yet available, there are reports in the region that Australian forces will be deployed via air in order to assist Australian citizens presently in the region, should they need to leave. The Prime Minister also expressed concern for the safety of the troops who will be deploying into an extremely dangerous and hostile environment.

Disruption of Global Economies and Political Unrest

The disruptions to the shipping lanes and oil supply have already adversely impacted global energy markets; reports indicate that thousands of deaths and displacements have occurred across Israel, Iran, and Lebanon as a result of the ongoing escalation of violence in these locations.

With the rapid escalation of the missile exchange, along with an increased military presence by additional countries in the region, analysts are warning that the current crisis could escalate into a much larger regional conflict. Given the world’s attention is now focused on the situation, it is urgent that diplomatic initiatives continue to be pursued to prevent any further escalation of the current crisis.
