Following a successful nine-month stay in space, Indian American NASA astronaut Sunita Williams has made a spectacular landing back on Earth. Her ancestral village Jhulasan in Gujarat is celebrating big time. People gathered around a temple, bursting crackers, dancing, and offering prayers to mark her successful return.
Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore made it to the Gulf of Mexico safely after traveling for 17 hours from the International Space Station (ISS). They returned due to technical difficulties occurring with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft.

NASA’s SpaceX capsule, bringing the astronauts home, landed in the sea off Florida’s Tallahassee. The astronauts were collected in under 60 minutes and given standard medical checks.

Family and Villagers Celebrate

In India, Sunita’s cousin Dinesh Rawal held a yagna in Ahmedabad to pray for her safe return. He said Sunita was not an ordinary person and she would keep inspiring the world. Villagers of Jhulasan watched live telecast of NASA landing and clapped and cheered as soon after, Sunita and crew took in the Earth’s air.

The acting chief of NASA, Janet Petro, was happy with the astronauts’ return. She said that they were successful in completing the mission, which involved science and technology experiments and the upkeep of the ISS.
