Pune Rape case update: Pune police on Tuesday took into custody Dattatray Ramdas Gade (37). A notorious assaulter on a 26-year-old woman in an ST bus by the side of the Pune Swargate bus stop. The incident in the wee hours had raised grave concerns among commuters in the city transport hubs.
Apprehended in Shirur
Moreover, recent news updates say that he was arrested in the wee hours of Friday at 1:30 AM in his hometown of Gunat, located in the Shirur area of Pune district. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Smartana Patil, confirmed the arrest, adding that the suspect was taken to Pune for further proceedings. Gade was produced in court on Friday.
Chain of Crime
The victim works as a health worker; she was at the Phaltan bus stop in the Satara district at 5:45 AM on Tuesday when Gade approached her. He pretended to be offering her help, calling her Tai (sister, in Marathi), and duped her into boarding an empty Shiv Shahi AC bus parked away on its own. Once she was inside the bus, he assaulted her and fled from there.
Investigations
After the crime, Gade fled to a relative’s home at Shirur. Reports say he told his family it was a “mistake” and that he wanted to surrender. But before he could do so, he went off somewhere again. A police dog squad cluster, working on an informer’s tip-off, nabbed him again.
This incident has once again made a call for stricter security measures at public transport terminals. Officials assure the investigation will continue for securing justice to the victim.
