Rohini Acharya Controversy: Lalu Yadav Breaks Silence
Lalu Prasad Yadav discusses strife within his family
Lalu Prasad Yadav, the head of RJD, has called the disagreement within his family an “internal matter”, to party members. He also said “I’ll take care of that.” These remarks are made at a time when the RJD is still pursuing recovery from a poor showing at recently held the elections in Bihar. This was an event that is cause of focus in current trending news today.
The comments were made at a session of RJD’s legislative members. This was where Tejashwi Yadav, Lalu’s third son was elected unopposed leader of the party’s legislative members. Even amid the open difference between his children, Lalu sought to create a sense of unity together. He asked the leaders present to focus together on rebuilding.
Increasing Family Divide
The conflict is primarily focused on Rohini Acharya, Lalu’s 46-year-old daughter. She openly chastised her brother Tejashwi. Although, the divide is far more significant than that of Roheti Acharya; among Lalu’s nine children, several have clarified their loyalties:
Supporting Rohini Acharya:
- Chanda Yadav, Ragini Yadav, Hema Yadav, and Tej Pratap Yadav
Supporting Tejashwi Yadav:
- Eldest sister Misa Bharti
The public conflict ensued after the RJD’s dismal performance in the state elections after only securing 25 seats as compared to 75 the prior election in 2020. The Grand Alliance secured a mere 35 seats altogether, significantly below the NDA’s count of 202.
Rohini’s Explosive Criticism: A Long Time Coming
Although Rohini’s criticism exploded on November 15, there were signs of discontent preceding that date. During the Bihar Adhikar Yatra, she protested Tejashwi’s advisor Sanjay Yadav sitting next to him at various public programs.
After their defeat in the elections, she dedicated her entire video post to explaining how she was humiliated and disrespected by Sanjay Yadav and assistant Rameez Nemat Khan. Also, They were responsible for meddling with her, and who had taken the liberty of mocking her kidney donation to Lalu Prasad in 2022. She announced that she was leaving politics and their family behind.
Because of Lalu’s health, he will be less capable of engaging in a political fight. Some observers are concerned that family issues could be the RJD’s greatest crisis while attempting to maintain its traditional demographic of Muslim-Yadav voters.
RJD Leaders Asking Media to Focus on Governance Issues
In an attempt to redirect media attention, Patliputra MP Misa Bharti urged reporters to focus on reporting about substantive promises made by the NDA. Namely job creation, financial assistance for Jeevika Didis and industry – rather than conflict that involves family issues.
She also said the issue of property meant nothing. This is as the CBI and ED continue to investigate many of Lalu Prasad’s properties. “In the current context, we are looking into strengthening the party,” she said.
Opposition Seizes on the Turmoil
BJP leaders, including Dilip Jaiswal, have seized the opportunity to publicly attack the RJD, denouncing the family dispute as an example of Lalu’s “patriarchal mindset,” especially in light of earlier occurrences of Rohini donating a kidney.
A Critical Point for the RJD
While the party tries to map out rebuilding efforts from a significant defeat, the Yadav family feud threatens to overshadow any necessary reforms. With the public listening and political opponents taking advantage, Lalu Prasad Yadav is facing one of his most complex balancing acts of his career.
