TCS Layoffs 2025: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s top IT services firm, is making workforce transitions after just announcing plans to lay off more than 12,000 people—about 2% of TCS’s total workforce—by fiscal 2026. The layoffs, mainly of mid-level and senior professionals, have caused a spike in job-searching behavior, especially for senior professionals.
Although TCS has not laid out all the precepts of its layoff plan, the transitions are already apparent across the hiring landscape. This transition is not only a huge shake-up in India’s tech sector—it is also more evidence of the recent business trends in tech jobs and reorganization of the workforce.
HR Firms Seeing More Inquiries and Resumes
Many of the top executive search and recruitment firms, like Transearch India, CIEL HR, TeamLease Digital, and Michael Page, have reported an increase in CVs and inquiries from current TCS employees. These senior employees proactively began their job search before TCS announced its layoffs because they were anticipating the layoffs.
Puneet Malhotra, Senior Partner at Transearch India, said they had been receiving resumes from senior employees of TCS for the last two quarters.
“We’re searching for a number of senior executives from TCS,” he said, saying more executive search will happen in the following weeks.
These professionals typically have over twenty years experience, many earning between ₹1 crore in salary per year.
Early Stage Transition: Not yet fully engaged in job searching.
Neeti Sharma, CEO TeamLease Digital, said while the level of resumes is consistent with previous weeks, the situation is likely at a “wait-and-watch” mode. “Many people are still in the early stages of the transition, and not in a full job search mode.” “Once it is clearer, we expect more momentum,” Sharma said.
TeamLease has received applications from TCS employees in a variety of roles, with more mid to senior roles, indicating screening has still been in experimentation while more people are likely looking to transition.
Where do TCS Employees Go?
Experts think a lot of the TCS people below, will seek to go to other IT service companies, global capability centers or any new start-up – mainly tech companies with the newest technologies.
Sharma observed that professionals with strong digital transformation, and cloud, AI and ML skills will likely have an easier time securing roles as the technology environment is massively changed.
Ratna Gupta, a Senior Partner of ABC Consultants, spoke of the more considerable trend in technology recruitment. The fast evolution of new technologies such as AI, cybersecurity, data analytics, and IoT to name a few, is outpacing the talent it requires. “She pointed out that companies are reorganizing their people to be competitive.”
TCS CEO Says AI is Not Taking Our Jobs
TCS CEO K. Krithivasan’s remarks indicated to reporters that the layoffs were not related to AI taking over human jobs, but a choice as part of a larger internal restructuring effort meant to realign business goals and employee skills.
Some experts believe AI and automation indirectly drive organizations to rethink their organizational structures and future workforce requirements.
CIEL HR Sees 25% Increase in Active Profiles of TCS Employees
According to Aditya Mishra, CEO of CIEL HR, active job seeker profiles have increased around 25%, this month for TCS employees. “We currently have more than 7,000 active profiles of TCS executives on our site,” he said. Most have expertise in Salesforce, Java, software engineering, and data architecture; expertise that remains in demand, but heightened with competition as IT services growth generally slows.
Michael Page India’s Pranshu Upadhyay also noted his thoughts, and went on to say that while the layoffs at TCS are clearly fresh news, TCS was receiving more inquiries over the previous weeks from TCS professionals.
Difficulties Ahead in a Slow IT Market
Many senior TCS employees will likely face challenges securing similar positions in the IT industry, even with their solid backgrounds. Hiring is still slow in the industry, and companies are becoming more discerning in their hiring decisions.
The total impact of TCS’s decision to restructure will reveal itself in the coming months. For now, it will be a busy period for HR agencies and job seekers—an era that may indicate change to India’s tech job landscape and plays an important role in the latest news on business and talent movement.
