Due to heavy rainfall in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, unusual event occurred. It was as approximately 3,000 LPG cylinders were washed away from an HPCL bottling plant into the Patalganga River. This prompted discussions in the trending news today on social media platforms.

Floodwaters Hit HPCL Bottling Plant

This incident happened at the HPCL Patalganga LPG Bottling Plant situated in MIDC Chavane, Panvel. Officials reported that the ongoing rains caused floods, washing away both filled and unfilled cylinders into the river.
Videos showing the floating cylinders have garnered public interest. This raised concern over public safety and the possible disaster management during the monsoon season.

Government Issues Urgent Public Advisory

After this accident, the district administration urged people to avoid touching or moving LPG cylinders found on the riverbanks or in the vicinity.

As stated by District Collector Kishan Jawale, authorities have no way of knowing if the cylinders contain any gas or if they can be handled safely. People are advised to quickly announce to the local government in case they see any cylinder. Search for the cylinders has already started.

Authorities from HPCL and the government are finding and trying to retrieve the cylinders that are lost. Those who see any cylinder are requested to return it to the nearest authorized HPCL LPG dealer or to the office of Tahsildar in Khalapur or Pen or to the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer in Pen.

Authorities are looking into the entire scenario of the flood to ensure that all the lost cylinders are retrieved securely.
