Kashyap ‘Kash’ Patel, an intimate associate of former President Donald Trump, has been appointed the first Director of the FBI of Indian descent. His appointment has evoked happiness as well as debate, very much like other Presidential appointments.

An Important Appointment

The Senate, now headed by Republicans, narrowly confirmed Patel 51-49. Two Republican Senators, Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins, voted against Patel along with all Democrats. Regardless of their opposition, Patel went on to take the position, in which he assured the public to restore confidence in the FBI.

The First Assistant Celebrates in Bollywood Style

Dan Scavino, Deputy Chief of Staff to Trump, celebrated Patel’s appointment in a remarkable manner—with an unusual video that is already going viral. He tweeted a clip from Edgar Wright’s Bollywood romance-drama Bajirao Mastani, replacing beleaguered actor Ranveer Singh’s features with Patel’s. The post reached over three million viewers, assuring its designation as trending news today.

Patel’s Perspective of the FBI

Just after Patel’s confirmation, he expressed many thanks to Trump and the Attorney General, Pam Bondi. He spelled out differences he wished to make to bring transparency and accountability into the FBI.

“Politicization of our justice system has eroded public trust in it—but that ends now,” Patel said.

The Background, the Experience

Though Patel grew up in New York, both of his parents hail from Gujarat. He is well-versed in the fields of law and national security. He has previously served as National Security Advisor and Senior Counsel for the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

After being appointed, Patel now faces the task of leading the FBI through a heavy and politically charged climate, dealing with both support and skepticism of his new leadership.
